Our Sharing Purpose

We created The Buttercup Sharing Foundation in memory of our Mother who we affectionately called The Lady. The four of us envisioned a caring space that empowers, supports, and protects Black and Brown communities; especially Women and Children.

Our family's foundation also searches for, creates, and uplifts ways to embrace positive representation, shared cultural experiences, and blessing sharing.

We are so blessed. There are so many amazing women in our family whose shoulders we humbly stand on...especially our Mother, The Lady. There are also so many amazing women in our community whose shoulders we humbly stand on as well.

We have learned that trusted medical representation can be a part of healthier communities as well as feeding our most vulnerable and encouraging literacy.

During this pandemic we have watched in awe as Dr Ala Stanford educated communities by being a knowledgeable and trusted touchstone who looks like many of us and understands many of us. We have also seen Dr Michelle Nelson compassionately create spaces and nourish those residing in food deserts with her Philadelphia Community Fridge Project.

Keeping all these amazing examples in mind we began to think about how our family could be of service to our community. Having several healthcare professionals in our family and friend circles, we decided to focus on Moms and Babies. We realized an opportunity to promote the 'positive representation should begin at birth' philosophy.

Sharing children's books with characters that look like our Black and Brown Moms and their Babies may seem small. However consistently seeing our faces represented in our world is not a privilege we all experience.
Understanding this inconsistent positivity and wanting to share our family's love for reading, we created the Buttercup Family Sharing Foundation. Our small, sibling created foundation hopes to encourage literacy through book sharing with positive representation and accessibility.

We truly hope our shared books bring smiles to families.
